Description The Story of Thanet's premier concert hall Ever since it was built in 1911 the Winter Gardens in Margate has been a beacon of entertainment for thousands of audiences, attracting some of the biggest names of their day in music, singing, dancing or comedy. The long list of stars who have trodden the boards of its impressive stage reads like a Who’s Who of show business. The Winter Gardens has also played a small part in the country’s political life, once being a venue for party conferences during the years after the Second World War, providing a platform for Sir Winston Churchill and Clement Attlee. Using popular postcards of the early 20th century along with rarely seen images from the Sunbeam Photography Collection and other private archives, this nostalgic book – part of a popular series by Nick Evans – maps out the history of the south east’s largest, and arguably most famous, concert hall. We are pleased to be hosting an opportunity to meet the author and buy a signed copy of this book when it is released on 20th July 2024.
