Between them they make up a large proportion of the Isle, their local economy relaying mainly on agriculture. Their history is ancient having seen Romans, Danes and Normas leave their mark on these small places down the centuries. At first glance it's easy to think the villages are sleepy backwaters - but reality tells us otherwise. More than 160 photographs richly illustrate this book including the stories of air sea rescue at RAF Mansion, Hill House Hospital, Minster, a festive tradition in St Nicholas, royal sausages from Sarre, and not forgetting a pub parrot in Acol. Many of the rarer photographs are being seen for the first time in 60 years and have been collated from Sunbeam Photography's collection, a parish council's archive as well as the author's extensive records.
